Ingredients

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup milk dairy or preferred non-dairy milk
  • 1 ripe banana mashed
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons plain Greek yogurt optional
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds optional
For Serving:
  • Banana slices
  • Fresh berries
  • 1 tablespoon chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter or almond butter
  • Extra maple syrup optional

Method

  1. Mash the ripe banana in a medium bowl or directly in a clean jar until mostly smooth.
  2. Add the milk, maple syrup or honey, vanilla extract, and mashed banana. Stir until well combined.
  3. Add the rolled oats, cinnamon, salt, and chia seeds if using. Stir in the Greek yogurt for a creamier texture.
  4. Mix thoroughly until the oats are evenly coated and there are no dry pockets. Add a small splash of milk if the mixture seems too thick.
  5. Cover the container tightly and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight.
  6. In the morning, stir the oats well. If they are too thick, add one or two tablespoons of milk and mix again.
  7. Top with fresh banana slices, berries, chopped nuts, peanut butter, or additional maple syrup.
  8. Serve chilled, or gently warm the oats if you prefer a warm breakfast.

Notes

  • Use old-fashioned rolled oats for the best texture.
  • Choose a ripe banana for natural sweetness and stronger banana flavor.
  • Allow at least 6 hours of refrigeration so the oats have enough time to soften.
  • Adjust the consistency with additional milk before serving.
  • Chia seeds absorb liquid, so avoid adding too much if you prefer softer oats.
  • Add crunchy toppings just before serving.
