Ingredients

Oatmeal
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 2 cups whole milk or preferred milk
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter optional
For Serving
  • 1/4 cup fresh blueberries
  • 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts or almonds
  • 2 tablespoons Greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds optional
  • Extra maple syrup or honey optional

Method

  1. Add the milk, rolled oats, cinnamon, and salt to a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a light simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for about 5–7 minutes, stirring until the oats become creamy and tender.
  4. Add 1 cup of blueberries during the final 2–3 minutes of cooking. If using frozen blueberries, add them directly and allow an extra 1–2 minutes if needed.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and maple syrup or honey. Add the optional butter for extra richness.
  6. Divide the oatmeal between two bowls.
  7. Top with fresh blueberries, Greek yogurt, chopped nuts, chia seeds, and an additional drizzle of maple syrup or honey if desired.
  8. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Old-fashioned rolled oats provide a creamy texture while maintaining some structure.
  • Frozen blueberries can be used without thawing.
  • Add extra milk if the oatmeal becomes too thick.
  • Let the oatmeal rest for a minute or two after cooking for a thicker consistency.
  • Adjust the maple syrup or honey according to the sweetness of the blueberries.
